Description

Your child builds a robot. Then watches it walk on its own.

TippyBot is a motor-powered walking robot your young engineer assembles from scratch. Wire the motor. Attach the legs. Flip the switch — and watch their face when it starts walking by itself for the very first time. That moment is what this kit is built for.

The walking motion uses a real crank mechanism — the same engineering principle in actual walking robots. Your child doesn't just watch it happen. They build the mechanism that makes it happen. Then it lives on their desk, walking whenever they want to show it off.

What Your Young Engineer Builds

  • 🦾 A motor-driven walking robot with insect-inspired rocking leg motion
  • 🔄 Real crank mechanism — rotary motor spin converted into back-and-forth walking
  • ⚡ Switch-controlled DC motor circuit, wired by hand
  • 🪵 Compact wooden body — photogenic desk display when not walking

The Achievement

12 build steps. 30–45 minutes of screen-free building. Short enough to finish in one sitting. Satisfying enough that they'll switch it on again and again to watch it walk — and to show every person who comes home. "I built that. It walks by itself."

Science Built Into Every Step

  • Crank Mechanism — converting rotary motion into walking (the same principle in real walking robots and engines)
  • Motor Circuits — how a switch, battery, and DC motor connect
  • Biomimicry Engineering — how engineers copy nature's movement patterns to build machines
  • Structural Assembly — three-way fork joints, load-bearing connections, stable frame design

💡 Desk display that proves they built something real. It sits on their shelf. It walks when they flip the switch. Every person who sees it asks "did you actually build that?" And your child says yes.

Part of the DigiDocks Inventor Box series. Real electronics. Real woodcraft. Real engineering. No screens required.

What You'll Learn

sync_alt

Crank Mechanism

Build the mechanism that converts the motor's spinning motion into a back-and-forth walking movement — the same engineering principle found in engines and real walking robots.

bolt

Motor Circuits

Connect a battery, switch, and DC motor into a complete circuit and understand how flipping a switch controls the flow of electricity.

Biomimicry Engineering

Discover how engineers copy nature's movement patterns to design machines — TippyBot's rocking leg motion is inspired by how insects walk.

Structural Assembly

Join three-way fork attachments and load-bearing boards into a stable frame, learning how structural connections work in real engineering.

Everything You Need to Know

What tools does my child need? expand_more
A Phillips screwdriver — included in the kit. No other tools are needed. The entire build uses screws only.
What batteries does it need? expand_more
2 AA batteries, not included. They are available at any general store.
Does TippyBot walk in a straight line? expand_more
TippyBot uses a crank mechanism that creates a rocking side-to-side motion as it walks — similar to the way insects move their legs. It does not walk in a perfectly straight line, and that rocking movement is part of the design, not a fault.
What if a part is missing or gets broken? expand_more
Contact DigiDocks support with your product name and the part number from your illustrated manual. We will send a replacement quickly.
Does it need coding or a computer? expand_more
No. TippyBot runs on a simple motor and switch — no coding, no app, and no screen time during the build.
